On Thursday February 23, Storm Doris hit Britain, causing damage and debris in her path. The viscous storm head from across the Atlantic, edging its way eastwards across Britain, with the nation not being clear of it until around sunset.
In Wales, wind speeds of around 94 miles per hour were recorded. Travel disruption on the UK’s roads delayed commuters and other motorists, whilst many travelling at airports experienced long delays and flight cancellations.
Britain’s national weather service, the Met Office, had warned:
“Damage to structures, interruptions to power supplier and widespread disruption to travel networks are likely, with a danger of injury from flying debris as the storm passes through.”
The North West was badly hit by the storm, with communications and electricity disrupted, trees blown down by the strong winds and significant damage to property. In Liverpool, the Port was closed due to the high winds.

A sky dive charity challenge!
On a different note, Revive’s co-director, Steve Rimmer, is preparing for a sky dive challenge, with three others for charity.
The team of ‘Heatone High Flyers’ are raising money for the British Heart Foundation (BHF). The BHF’s incredible work helps save around half the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in Britain. Though sadly, hundreds of people still lose their lives to this disease in the UK daily.
Thanks to fundraising efforts like the one Steve Rimmer and the team are challenging themselves to, the BHF is able to fund research, education and life-saving equipment and help heart patients by creating new treatments and finding new cures. Just a £25 donation could pay for as much as an hour of research by an early career scientist.
Please show your support for the ‘Heatone High Flying’ team and help them hit their target. Every pound donated will be an incredible contribution to helping the BHF save lives.
You can make a donation for the sky dive challenge on the team’s fundraising page.
Your support is greatly appreciated.
